How to Conduct an Interactive Read Aloud:

  1. State the reason the book was chosen and the purpose of the lesson
  2. Give the curriculum connection(s)
  3. Provide a book introduction (explain briefly what the book is about)
  4. Provide any vocabulary words that need to be defined and clarified.
  5. Connect children's prior knowledge to the topics by brainstorming a bulleted list
  6. Highlight the comprehension strategy or strategies that you want them to use.
  7. Model the strategy for the students first (gradual release of responsibility)
